The winners of the Russian Premier League will be entered into the UEFA Champions League, with the runners-up entered into the qualifying stages. The teams finishing in 3rd to 5th places are entered into the UEFA Europa League. The teams finishing in the bottom two places will be relegated to Russian First Division.

The current champions are Zenit St. Petersburg, who won the 2010 Russian Premier League title, 6 points ahead of CSKA Moscow in 2nd place.
The most successful club in the competition are Spartak Moscow, with 9 titles since the competition became the Russian Premier League in 1992.
