The current champions are Śląsk Wrocław, who won the 2011-12 Polish Ekstraklasa title by just 1 point, ahead of Ruch Chorzów in 2nd place.

Górnik Zabrze and Wisła Kraków are the most successful clubs in the competition, with 14 titles each since the competition became the Polish Ekstraklasa in 1927.

Competition format:

The winners of the Polish Ekstraklasa will be entered into the UEFA Champions League qualifying stages, with the teams finishing in 2nd and 3rd place entering the UEFA Europa League. The teams finishing in the bottom two places at the end of the season will be relegated to the Polish I Liga, the second division in Poland.
