Competition format:
The teams finishing in the top two places of the Italian Serie B are automatically promoted to Italian Serie A at the end of the season, with the teams in 3rd to 6th places competing in the play-offs to decide who else will be promoted. The teams finishing in the bottom three places are relegated to the Italian Serie C1.

AlbinoLeffe, Ascoli, Atalanta, Cittadella, Crotone, Empoli, Frosinone, Grosseto, Livorno, Modena, Novara, Padova, Pescara, Piacenza, Portogruaro, Reggina, Sassuolo, Siena, Torino, Triestina, Varese and Vicenza.
Recent history:
The current champions are Lecce, who won the 2009-10 Italian Serie B title by 1 point, ahead of Cesena in 2nd place.
