Maccabi Haifa are also the most successful club in the competition, with 7 titles since it became the Israeli Premier League in 1999.

The 14 clubs currently competing in the 2012–13 Israeli Premier League are:

Beitar Jerusalem, Bnei Sakhnin, Bnei Yehuda, FC Ashdod, Hapoel Acre, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, Hapoel Haifa, Hapoel Ramat Gan, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Ironi Kiryat Shmona, Ironi Ramat HaSharon, Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Netanya and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Competition format:

The top six clubs at the end of the Israeli Premier League season enter a play-off competition to decide who will win the one place in the UEFA Champions League qualifying stage and who will get the two places in the UEFA Europa League 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds. The teams finishing 7th to 10th compete in the middle play-off and the teams finishing 11th to 16th compete in the bottom play-off to decide on qualifcation and relegation to the Israeli Liga Leumit.
