The teams from the Indonesian Super League entered into the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, is dependent on the AFC Final Assessment Ranking. For the 2009–2012 seasons, the ISL have one team each in the AFC Champions League group stage and play-off stage, with one team also qualifying for the AFC Cup.

Recent history:
The current champions are Arema Indonesia, who won the 2009-10 Indonesian Super League by 6 points, ahead of Persipura Jayapura in 2nd place.
The most successful clubs in the competition are Arema Indonesia and Persipura Jayapura, with 1 title each since the competition became the Indonesian Super League in 2008.
