Bundesliga are automatically promoted to the German Bundesliga at the end of the season, with the team finishing 3rd contesting a play-out with the team finising 3rd from bottom in the German Bundesliga. The teams finishing in the bottom two places are relegated to the German 3. Liga, with the team finishing 3rd from bottom contesting a play-out with the team finising 3rd in the German 3. Liga.
