The winners of the Dutch Eredivisie will be entered into the UEFA Champions League, with the runners-up entered into the qualifying stages. The teams finishing in 3rd and 4th place are entered into the UEFA Europa League. The team finishing in last place will be relegated to the Dutch Eerste Divisie, with the two teams finishing in the 2nd and 3rd from bottom positions contesting a play-out with two teams from the Dutch Eerste Divisie to decide who will be promoted and relegated.

Recent history:
The current champions are Ajax, who won the 2010-11 Dutch Eredivisie title by 2 points, finishing ahead of FC Twente in 2nd place.
Ajax are also the most successful club in the competition, with 30 titles since the competition became the Dutch Eredivisie in 1956.
