The current champions are FC Nordsjælland, who won the 2011-12 Danish Superliga title for the first time in their history, ahead of FC Copenhagen in 2nd.
FC Copenhagen are the most successful club in the competition, with 9 titles since the competition became the Danish Superliga in 1991.

Competition format:
The winners and runners-up of the Danish Superliga will be entered into the UEFA Champions League qualifying stages, with the 3rd and 4th placed teams being entered into the UEFA Europa League. The teams finishing in the bottom two places will be relegated to the Danish 1st Division.
