The top eight teams at the end of the Colombian Primera A season will contest in the play-offs to decide who will be entered into the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana competitions, the bottom team is relegated to Categoria Primera B.

The current champions are Once Caldas who won the 2011 Colombian Primera A, which is the club's 4th title since the league was founded in 1948.
The most successful clubs in the Colombian Primera A are Los Millonarios and America de Cali, who have won the title on 13 occasions since it began in 1948.
