The winners of the Bulgarian A PFG are entered into the qualifying stages of the UEFA Champions League, with the teams finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. The teams finishing in the bottom two places at the end of the season are relegated down to the Bulgarian B PFG.

Akademik Sofia, Beroe Stara Zagora, Cherno More Varna, Chernomorets Burgas, CSKA Sofia, Kaliakra Kavarna, Levski Sofia, Litex Lovech, Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Lokomotiv Sofia, Minyor Pernik, Montana, OFC Sliven, Pirin Blagoevgrad, Slavia Sofia and Vidima-Rakovski Sevlievo.
Recent history:
The current champions are Litex Lovech, who won the 2010-11 Bulgarian A PFG title, ahead of Levski Sofia in 2nd place.
The most successful club in the competition are CSKA Sofia, with 31 titles since it became the Bulgarian A PFG in 1948.
