More than 20 clubs have been promoted from this division since it became the Austrian Erste Liga in 1974.

Austria Lustenau, Blau-Weiß Linz, FC Lustenau, First Vienna FC, Kapfenberger SV, SC Altach, SKN St. Pölten, SV Grödig, SV Horn and TSV Hartberg.
Competition format:
The winners of the Austrian Erste Liga earn promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. The teams finishing in the bottom three places, at the end of the season, are relegated down to the Austrian Regional Leagues (East, West and Central).
