Competition format:

The winners of the Austrian Erste Liga earn promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. The teams finishing in the bottom three places, at the end of the season, are relegated down to the Austrian Regional Leagues (East, West and Central).

Participating teams:

The 10 teams currently competing in the 2010–11 Austrian Erste Liga are:

FC Gratkorn, SC Austria Lustenau, FC Lustenau 07, WAC St. Andra, SV Grödig, First Vienna FC 1984, FC Trenkwalder Admira, SKN St. Polten, TSV Hartberg and SC Rheindorf Altach.

Recent history:

The current champions are FC Wacker Innsbruck, who won the 2009-10 Austrian Erste Liga title by 2 points, ahead of FC Trenkwalder Admira.

More than 20 clubs have been promoted from this division since it became the Austrian Erste Liga in 1974.
