The teams of the Argentine Primera Division can qualify for two of the South American international club tournaments, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. At the end of the season, following the Apertura and Clausura competitions, two teams are relegated to the Argentine Primera B Nacional division.

The current champions of the 2010-11 Argentine Primera Division Apertura title are Estudiantes LP, who finished ahead of Velez Sarsfield in 2nd place.
River Plate are the most successful club in the Argentine Primera Division, with 33 titles since the league was founded in 1893.
