Competition format:
There are 8 groups, each with 4 teams, in which the top 2 will qualify for the last 16. In the round of 16, the teams play a single knockout match, but the quarter-final and semi-final rounds are played over 2 legs. The final is a one-off match.
Participating teams:
The AFC Cup has participating teams from the following countries:
Bahrain, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Singapore, Syria, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen.
Recent history:
The current holders are Al-Ittihad (Syria), who won the 2010 AFC Cup final 4-2 on penalties against Al-Qadsia (Kuwait). The teams finished 1-1 after extra-time.
The most successful club in the competition are Al-Faisaly, who won the cup in 2005 and 2006. Jordan are also the most successful nation in the competition, with 3 titles (Al-Faisaly 2, Shabab Al-Ordon 1).
